130th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Fire Brigade



The Fire Brigade is approaching its 130th anniversary since its establishment on 2 May 1883 in 2013. During this period, Macao has experienced huge changes, especially during the 13 years after Macao’ s return to the motherIand many new types large-scale entertainment and resort hotels have been established with the opening of gambling concessions, making Macao become a “world-famous tourism and leisure centre”.
The earIy fire-fighting work was governed by Xiangshan County Government of Guangdong Province and coolie hall was set up in the folk to assist to put out fires. From the late 19th century to now the fire brigade has developed into today’ s army with advanced equipment and more than 1,000 personnel from an army with simple equipment through a lot of hard work and struggle. The fire-fighters have been sticking to the posts of dut for a long time with the fire-fighting spirit of “Abandoning self for others” to contribute to the prosperity and stability of Macao as well as safeguarding civilians lives and property.

Central Fire Station and Fire Services Museum
The former fire brigade command building located in Estrada de Coelho do Amaral was established on 3 October 1923; after that with the development of economy and society of Macao, it was expanded in 1994, the whole floor area after the extension is about 3.700 m, In addition to various administrative departments, it is also the Central Fire Station of this brigade.
The station is equipped with 126 fire-fighters on duty and 18 emergency vehicles with difference sizes and categories.

British style manual pump
For the British style manual pump in 1877. its pump was moved up and down by manpower to pressurize so as to put out fires in those days and the water was provided by coolies: now it is kept in the Fire Services Museum.

Taipa Fire Station
The new Taipa Fire Station located in Rua de Narn Keng in Taipa was established in 1996 with the floor area of about 2.264 m: it is equipped with drilling building, underground parking, 114 fire-fighters on duty as well as 9 emergency vehicles with different sizes and categories.

British style ladder
It is an old type rescue vehicle for water pump and ladder with 50 stairs. It was produced in 1955 and is kept in the Fire Services Museum now.

Areia Preta Fire Station
The Areia Preta Fire Station near the power plant was established in 1997 with the floor area of about 6.720 m. It is equipped with 126 fire-fighters on duty and 31 emergency vehicles with different sizes and categories. In addition to the Fire Station, it is also the place of Fire Training School and Division of Workshops of Macao Services.

Aerial ladder platform
The Aerial ladder platform with the rescue height of 68 meters is the highest platform steel ladder truck in Macao now, the water flow of water cannon with electric remote control is 3.800 litres/minute: it was formally put into service in 2008.

Headquarters of Fire Brigade & Sai Van Lake Fire Station
The Headquarters of Fire Brigade & Sai Van L.akc Fire Station near Macao Tower was established on 28 April 2006 with the floor area of about 3.800 m: it is equipped with 110 fire-fighters on duty and 18 emergency vehicles with different sizes and categories, This station is also the new headquarters of this brigade: it is equipped with command post and various administrative departments.

High Reach Extendable Turret Stinger
The volume of water tank of High Reach Extendable Turret Stinger is 12.000 liters, the flow of stinger is 1,100 litres/minute/16 bars: it is responsible for extinguish and rescue work in Macao International Airport: it was formaly put into service in 2007.

Comm and Building of Fire Brigade
The Command Building of Fire Brigade located in Estrada de Coelho do Amaral was established in 1920, which was designed by Chinese architect, Chan Kuan Pui: the famous post office building is also one of his masterpieces.

British style steam pump
The British style steam pump in the late 19th century. driven by horses, was responsible for putting out fires in Macao: four steam fire extinguishers were purchased by fire brigade in 1915 so as to improve the strength in fire extinguish.
